Volunteer
Keep track of our money as our Group Treasurer:
We are looking for a volunteer Treasurer to join our Trustee Board and help support the group’s ongoing activities.
The group, which provides opportunities for young people to take part in a range of activities and experiences, is seeking someone with an organised approach and a head for numbers … plus a love of spreadsheets!
We’re keen to hear from enthusiastic individuals, ideally somebody local and with experience in accounting, finance or other Treasurer roles. Previous experience with Scouts is not necessary.
The role:
As an integral part of our organisation, the Treasurer will also be a Trustee. The role involves straightforward financial tasks that help ensure the group runs smoothly behind the scenes, including:
- Reviewing and presenting details about income and spend with other Trustees.
- Ensuring that all financial reports, annual statements of account and supporting documents (including receipts, cheque books and bank statements) are maintained accurately and in accordance with legal regulations.
- Preparing the Annual Statement of Accounts for independent examination and approval by the Trustee Board, and presenting these at the Annual General Meeting; held at our ever-popular Family Camp (with BBQ and campfire!)
- Attendance at our major fundraising events and calculating the profits through paying expenses and counting the takings.
- Membership and attendance of the Finance sub-committee.
- Making sure Gift Aid is being claimed.
The Trustee Board meets approximately five times a year and our meetings take place in the evenings. This is a very flexible role which you can fit around your family, work and social commitments. Other than the odd pre-planned meeting, you can fit things around you!
Being just a small part of scouting is great fun and it goes without saying that supporting young people can be one of the most rewarding things you can do, plus it all looks good on your CV. You’ll receive a warm welcome (we’re a very friendly bunch!) some short online learning to help get you started, plus lots of ongoing support.
We’re looking for someone to take over responsibility of the accounts from 2026-2027 financial year – with support from our current Treasurer until the next June AGM. So ideally to start as soon as possible!
